Just because your customer wants to pay by credit card should not mean he or she cannot leave a tip if desired. We have created a visual and intuitive way for them to leave your servers a tip on the very POS device they will use to pay on.
Tips will indeed make your cashiers happy, but the Satisfaction surveys tied to them let you gauge your customers' satisfaction as well.
Enabling Tips
To activate Tips, turn them on in the Settings menu:
To disable Tips, deactivate via the same switch:
Enabling the Rating system
Showing the card-paying customer a short satisfaction poll is optional when enabling Tips. This lets the customer rate the service he or she received, with a thumbs up or a thumbs down:
Even more helpful is the ability to ask that customer for the reason why he or she gave that rating:
Both features can be activated or hidden at any time. But note, Tips must be enabled first.
To activate Satisfaction surveys, turn them on in the Settings menu:
Once you have activated ratings, you can (optionally) enable the “Ask for detailed feedback” feature as well:
How to use Satisfaction surveys and Tips when accepting a payment
The following diagram shows you how the Satisfaction poll and Tips screens fit into the workflow of accepting a payment. Please note that in the middle of the procedure, the POS terminal must be shown to the customer, who must interact with the POS terminal to rate the service and choose a tip, then present his or her card. In the example below, the Calculator is activated as well, but remember, it would otherwise not appear.
Completing the poll and leaving a tip is private business! The customer might appreciate some privacy during the act.
You can set the POS terminal down in front of the customer and “look away” when he or she is completing the survey and leaving the tip, as you are used to doing when the customer is entering his or her PIN.
Satisfaction survey and Tips features
Tips in € or in %
It is possible for your customer to leave a tip in either euros or as a percentage of the total.
However, the ability to leave tips in percentages—and thus, the ability to choose, as above—must be enabled first. To activate Tips in percentages, turn it on in the Settings menu:
Your customer will now have the option to tip in € or %.
Minimum sale amount to show Tips screen
For really small transactions, showing the Tips screen may get in the way of an otherwise quick card payment. That’s why we made it possible for you to set a minimum threshold to involve Tips. This makes the whole Tips functionality appear only at that amount and above.
To set the minimum threshold for Tips, tap the current amount in the Settings screen and enter your new minimum amount. Tap the checkmark to save.
Default tip amounts
As they are your customers and your tips, you can decide what the default Tips amounts should be. You can do this for both % and € tips. However, please note that the 0% (and 0€) tips are mandatory, and they always must appear to the customer when giving them the option to tip.
To change the default tip amounts, tap the current amounts in the Settings screen and enter your new numbers:
You can change the default tip amounts for percentages, as well:
On-screen Tips messages
Your customers see helpful little sentences that help them associate their gratuity (in € or %) with their level of gratitude:
The coolest part about this feature is that you can set the texts!
To change a text that appears when the user selects a tip amount, tap the current text in the Settings screen and enter your new message:
You can even use your favorite icons!
You can change the text that appears for % tips as well.
Detailed feedback texts
You can also control the on-screen text that appears when the customer gives a positive or negative rating. By default the current messages are set up for restaurant situations, but we understand that you may be operating in another service industry. Therefore, personalize the feedback choices as you wish.
To customize your feedback texts, tap to edit them on the Settings menu:
Tipping limits
There are limits to the tips that can be left in Tips:
Payment | Maximum tip allowed |
---|---|
Less than 3€ | 3€ |
Less than 200€ | 100% of total |
More than 200€ | 50% of total* |
*The absolute maximum tip that can be left is 1,000€.
